LOPE Ranch

Rehab and Adoption Facility

The LOPE Ranch is a 26-acre adoption facility located in Cedar Creek, Texas (near Austin). Race trainers donate their injured or at-risk horses to LOPE and we adopt them into approved non-race homes.

Herd of horses at LOPE RanchLOPE will rest and rehab injured horses, and even start the retraining process for sound horses. Here at the ranch, horses can relax in a grassy turnout pasture and learn how to be "just horses" again before starting their new jobs.

There is an adoption approval process required to adopt the horses at the LOPE Ranch. Prior to purchase, prospective buyers of LOPE Ranch horses must be approved first by submitting an online application form and passing a reference/veterinary check.

Please see the LOPE adoption listings page for horses currently available for adoption at the LOPE Ranch.

Homestretch Heroes Rehabilitation Program

LOPE Rehab BarnIn the spring of 2008, a major donation of a 2003 Barnmaster barn allowed LOPE to launch the Homestretch Heroes Rehabilitation Program. This program focuses on helping more seriously-injured racehorses that need surgery, extensive stall rest and longer rehab care.

In conjunction with the new barn, LOPE has also started a special surgery fund for racehorses with knee and ankle chips. These surgeries will be performed at the Austin Equine Associates surgical center in Driftwood, Texas.
