2011 SHOT Awareness ClinicApril 9, 2011 / Diamond F Arena / Seguin, TX
LOPE is excited to announce that we will be hosting a Stock Horse of Texas (SHOT) Awareness Clinic on April 9, 2011 at Diamond F Arena in Seguin, TX!

The SHOT Awareness Clinic is a one-day event designed to help you and your horse work on the different aspects of stock horse versatility (cow work, reining, trail/obstacle and pleasure). The clinic is open to all levels of riders and horses — and is a low-pressure and fun way to show your horse new things (or new ways to do familiar things). The atmosphere is supportive and low-key, with a focus on good horsemanship principles and learning in a pleasant environment for horse and rider.
SHOT Awareness Clinics are great activities for all types of horses (from green prospects to seasoned show horses) and all levels of riders from different disciplines (from novice cowboys to pro dressage riders). LOPE also will receive a portion of the clinic proceeds, so it’s also a fun way to support a great cause and help ex-racehorses.
The clinic will run from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and will rotate riders between each of the classes (cow work, reining, trail/obstacle and pleasure) throughout the day. Registration is $65 for SHOT members and $90 for non-members. The $90 fee for non-members includes automatic membership in SHOT — so you can take advantage of other 2011 SHOT events at a discount.
"The whole point of SHOT is about riding the horse you have, that every horse and rider can improve – and why not put some purpose behind those improvements? It’s not about encouraging folks to go buy some show-ready horse – instead, it’s about improving what you've got and having fun while doing it."
— Laurie Shelton, SHOT 2010 Open Champion
SHOT Clinicians
We have an incredible lineup of clinicians — including two per class!
Primary Clinicans
Gisela Festerling, of Waller, Texas, was raised in Bavaria Germany, and has deep roots in the discipline of dressage. She moved to Texas in 1989 and spent 5 years training under the legend Jack Brainard, honing skills in western performance with a focus on reining. She has shown in a variety of associations, including SHOT and NRHA, and gears her program toward training both horses and riders. Her method emphasizes creating clear communication between horse and rider, and gives riders the tools to better understand and manage their horse’s abilities.
Sean Brown, of Wimberley, Texas is a professional trainer with a focus on cutting and working cow horses. He is a lifelong rider and multiple event competitor in AQHA, SHOT, ASHA, ACHA and NCHA. He trains both horses and people, and particularly enjoys helping Amateur and Non Pro riders improve their riding and showing skills. He is a constructive teacher and is a firm believer in fundamentals coming first for horse and rider.
Brian Sumrall, of Daisetta, Texas is the current Stock Horse of Texas President. He has enjoyed training young and problem horses for years, and is one of the favorite SHOT clinicians. He has had success in the show pen, but his primary passion is helping riders improve their horsemanship. He has been a SHOT competitor, judge, and clinician for over 10 years, and brings with him the experience and patience it takes to advance riders to the next level.
Beverly Moseley, of Navasota, Texas has been involved with SHOT since 2004 as an exhibitor and is currently a board of director for the association. In 2008, she was the SHOT state champion in the Novice division and ASHA national champion that year. She wrapped up 2009 as one of the top five limited non pro riders in Texas. She has seen the association grow over the years and has a passion for SHOT's mission - helping people ride a better horse.
