Success Stories Since its founding in 2003, LOPE has helped transition over 600 Texas ex-racehorses into new careers. Each placement is a success story of its own. Here are just a few examples: Update: As there are literally hundreds of LOPE success stories, we apologize that this page is woefully out-of-date. In its place, we are using the LOPE blog to highlight recent success stories of note, along with other "horse tales" from the LOPE ranch. Wise Indulgence (Wise) Wise, a handsome 4 year old dark bay gelding, came to the LOPE Ranch with a sore back and a lack of interest in racing. His pedigree was impressive (he is by the sire Hadif) and he managed to look noble even while grazing under our trees.
“Wise is doing so well," says Larry. "I entered him in the Fort Worth Skyline Endurance Ride in the 25 mile event, and he did great! He was able to keep up with the Arabians in our Group.”

He was soon adopted by Larry
in Garland. Wise and Larry seemed to hit it off from the start.
Larry had a strong interest in
endurance trail
riding, and Wise turned out to be the perfect partner for him! 
Free Capital was a tall young gelding with a friendly personality and absolutely no speed. Brian knew he was the horse for him. “We're having a great time, he's the prettiest horse in the barn, at least that what all the girls say” Brian reports. “He is very social and during his strolls through the barn, he loves to stop and say "hi" to ALL 40+ barn mates. Thanks LOPE, you've found someone a great horse and the horse a great home!”
Even though he is only 3, The
Kid is no fool! After a bout with EPM ended his racing career,
he came to the ranch. With a little
training, The Kid has shown tremendous talent at
trail riding – he is the
quietest mount on the ranch. Nothing fazes him – not
even a jester’s
hat on his head (for our Halloween picture).
