We're excited to announce that LOPE now has two Summer Equine Veterinary Mentorship Days scheduled for July!
Both events are free, but we'll be keeping the groups small so everyone has plenty of opportunity to ask questions and participate. Both events will be held at the LOPE farm in Driftwood, Texas.
Thursday, July 16 (9:30–11:00 a.m.)
Veterinary Skills & Vet School Q&A with Aubry Burgess

This is a great introductory event for teens and students interested in equine veterinary medicine.
Former LOPE intern Aubry Burgess was accepted to Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine early as an undergraduate junior—a rare accomplishment. She'll demonstrate basic equine health assessment techniques using the LOPE horses, then answer questions about what helped her earn early admission to veterinary school and prepare for a career in equine medicine.
Ideal for upper middle school, high school, and early college students interested in equine veterinary medicine or other horse-related careers.
Thursday, July 30 (12:30–3:30 p.m.)
Equine Case Studies with Veterinarians & Veterinary Students

We're especially excited about this pilot event in partnership with TEVA (the Texas Equine Veterinary Association).
The afternoon begins with lunch at Salt Lick (provided by LOPE), followed by an afternoon at the farm with Dr. Brittany Campbell, DVM—TEVA's Outreach Director—and a small group of 1st and 2nd year veterinary students.
Together we'll examine several LOPE retired Thoroughbred warhorses while discussing lameness evaluations, radiographs, ultrasound findings, old sports injuries, rehabilitation, and the veterinary decision-making behind each case. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion throughout the afternoon.
Ideal for high school and college students with a strong interest in equine veterinary careers.
Whether you're hoping to become an equine veterinarian or simply want to learn more, these events offer a rare opportunity to spend time with experienced equine veterinarians, veterinary students, and LOPE's retired Thoroughbred warhorses.
If you'd like to attend either event, please email or call/text Lynn at 512-565-1824 and let us know which date(s) you're interested in. We'll send additional details and reserve your spot.
These events are made possible through the generous supporters of LOPE's Warhorses & Veterinary Mentorship campaign. Special thanks to lead donor Jini Berman for helping launch this new program.
